Thinking about trying open water swimming but not quite sure where to start? This one is for you.
Join Fay at FLÖ for a friendly, beginner-focused introduction to open water swimming. It’s designed for anyone who is new to outdoor swimming, feeling a little nervous, or just wants some guidance before joining regular swim sessions.
This is a lovely first step if you’ve never been to FLÖ before, haven’t swum outdoors in a while, or are curious about cold water swimming but want to do it in a calm, supported way.
Fay is a Swim Teacher, Open Water Coach and Open Water Lifeguard Trainer, and she has a really calm, encouraging approach. She’ll guide you through what to expect, how to get in and out of the lake, how to manage your breathing, and how to listen to your body so you can enjoy it at your own pace.
Available dates:
Saturday 10th October
Saturday 24th October
Saturday 5th December
Your session will start with a 45-minute workshop, where Fay will talk you through the key things to know before getting into open water. This is a chance to ask questions, understand what will happen, and feel a bit more prepared before heading down to the lake.
You’ll then have a 45-minute swim slot with Fay. This isn’t about swimming fast or far, it’s about building confidence, getting used to the lake, and learning how to enjoy open water in a way that feels good for you.
During the swim part of the session, you’ll also have access to the sauna. This is completely optional, but it’s a really nice back-up, especially if you’re new to cold water. You can warm up between dips, practise getting in and out of the water with Fay’s help, and even try a few shorter swims during the session if you’d like to.
The session will cover:
What to expect when swimming in open water
How to get in and out of the lake safely
How to manage your breathing
How to stay calm in colder water
Understanding your own limits
Basic open water safety
Building confidence in the lake
How to warm up between dips
Time to ask questions before and after your swim
Who is it for?
This session is perfect if you’re new to open water swimming, coming back after a break, or wanting a bit of support before swimming more regularly.
You don’t need to be an experienced open water swimmer. You just need to be able to swim and feel comfortable being in water.
What to bring:
Please bring swimwear, a towel and goggles if you’d like to use them. A wetsuit is optional, but can be a good idea in colder weather if you’d like a little extra warmth and confidence.
We’d also recommend bringing cosy layers for afterwards, such as a warm jumper, thick socks, a hat and easy shoes or sliders.
If you have your own tow float, please bring it with you. If not, you can borrow one of ours.
Things to note:
This is a small-group session, so it feels relaxed, friendly and supportive.
The focus is confidence, safety and enjoying the experience, not distance swimming.
Sauna access is included during the swim part of the session, but using the sauna is completely optional.
A hot drink is included on your way out, to help you warm up after your swim.
Booking policy:
Cancellations are accepted up to 14 days before your session. After this point, spaces are non-refundable, cannot be rescheduled, but can be passed on to someone else.
